Quote by NorthyThat is a very good picture. Loads of kudos for your cleanup work.

lol
thx
but its not cleaning:
its vectoring+painting
i just recreated the pic so its way more than just cleaning

Quite the special person you are. I haven't met anyone that blunt before, and I'm actually happy to know one now. The world needs more people like you XD

Quote by Northy This girl is from the manga "My Lovely Ghost Kana". It's actually a quite sweet manga, though it's not suitable for the young 'uns, what with the erotic scenes in it.

Here is the cover image, if anyone is curious.. (835x1024, 236kB.)

Thank you for telling me about it!
I must read it :nerd:

Quote by Silvana11Will you plz explain his to me: Minitokyo has been ripped?
I don't understand all of your thread, and I would really like to know some more.. So if you could make it a little more detailed and in a language not to hard to understand? That would be very nice thanks :)

It means someone took the entire contents of the Minitokyo site... (That is, probably only the wallpapers, the scans and the fanart, not the webpages themselves) ...and put it up somewhere as a Torrent download. It falls somewhere within the same line as taking wallpapers from this site and put them up on another site without permission.

Oh... bad news... I didn't even know that was possible :/ But that you for telling

Well, since I don't know entirely how Minitokyo does the whole credit/download quota detraction upon download, it's possible someone found a way to batch-download everything outside of that system. I know there are various web-browser plugins that lets you download all pictures from a specific server, for instance.

This is just a guess, though, so I'm not saying that's what really happend. Just that it's most likely what happened, given the amount of pictures featured on this site. It would be impossible to get everything via credits and the download quota, even back when it was set to 30.

I fail to understand, though, why someone went through the trouble of putting everything to torrent. I seriously doubt someone is going to bother sifting through tens of thousands of wallpapers and scans to see what he or she would like to keep.

I dunno...it's all just strange.

I don't know if you saw the thread made by the people who did it... It was deleted in a short time, but I did and well... at least now we know how they did it...

Hey there, about your comment....yes it was from episode 11. Since it was taken from
the Episode itself the image was a little blurry so please forgive me if it is not presented well ^^; anyway Thanks.

Oh, the presentation was great. I merely pointed out that your vector work could use some more adjustment to make it look more like a painting rather than that the linework looking like it was made by a ballpoint pen. (If you understand what I mean.) The coloring was good, the backgrounds weren't bad at all and the composition was great. The linework/vectoring was just a little too... prominent for its own good.

Haha I actually did another one with a similar effect to what you suggest. I saved that version actually. I'm thinking of editing the wallpaper sometime. I'll update it when I think of a better presentation.

BIG Thanks for fav :D ! I'm glad You liked it :) !

Quote by NorthyI usually see it like this: If the original has an English name, I'm fine with it. I'm also fine with most Japanese pronounciations of English names, though.

It's kind of ironic that the two seasons of Victorian Romance Emma will be getting the sub-only treatment from Rightstuf, especially since almost all the names of the characters are archetypical British names: William, Eleanor, Emma and so forth.

The only anime I have seen where they actually changed the names around in the dub is Robotech. Ichijo Hikaru becomes Rick Hunter, Maximilian Jenius becomes Max Sterling and Misa Hayase becomes Lisa Hayes. Although, to be honest, the Macross names sounds more like odd Japanese pronounciations of English names, especially in the case of Misa/Lisa.

And then, there's the triple wallop that is Ah! My Goddess, which is basically a weird mix of Japanese and Norwegian names, the Norwegian names partially changed into English-y variants. As it were, the Japanese comes closest to the Norwegian pronounciations on Urd's name, while the English dub is better with Skuld. But the most hilarious inaccuracy gets slapped on the very main character of the show, basically because the Japanese just have no way of being able to pronounce Verdande properly, which eventually lead to "Belldandy" in the English dub. So yeah, the Americans/British aren't the only ones screwing up names. :P

Thank you for taking time to reply to my thread :D I appreciate it! I saw none of the series you mentioned, but Ah! My Goddess seems to be really weird when it comes to names, lol

Quote by NorthyIf you plan on drinking because you're honestly curious what it's like, then I recommend that you try something relatively mild and that you drink CAREFULLY. The tipsy state is a pleasant state of drunkenness, but it's fairly hard to maintain without becoming really drunk or turning sober again. But then, it's better to err on the side of caution rather than overdoing it and end up sick and conscious, but barely able to do anything. (And yes, I'm speaking from personal experience.) Another interesting thought: If your friends/the people around you say you should drink more, you should probably ignore them and set your own pace. But if they say you should calm down on the drinking, you'd do well to listen.

Thank you for all the good advice. Don't worry though, I'm not planning to start drinking or anything, just started this thread because I was curious ;) But thanks anyway, I really appreciate you took the time to reply :)

Quote: I didn't start drinking before I was 19, and back then, drinking mostly made me somewhat hyper. Now, on the rare occations I choose to drink, I just get silly and somewhat chatty.

Good for you XD

Thanks for your reply and have a nice weekend!

Bye bye!

Quote by NorthyWell, aren't you people lucky. Perhaps now that you got what you wanted, you'll support the license by purchasing the DVDs too. And maybe this would even encourage those capitalistic swine that only license anime they think people would want to see to license Kanon too.

Anime companies -- and this includes the ones in Japan who MAKES the anime you all love so much -- are in it for the money for the most part. That's what supports the creation of more, after all. It's common business sense -- no companies wants to run their business in the red constantly after all.

i know all this and i do buy all my anime. like i get them sent in from japan and stuf.

I know. My comment wasn't really aimed at you anyway. I did find some of the other comments amusing, though, especially the ones who went off on how the companies licensing and importing anime only thought about making money off them, which is usually the number one excuse for people who make a habit of downloading the fansubs or, even worse, buying bootlegs. Of course, those people usually DON'T want any US companies to license anything.

I/We (and by "we", I mean my fellow members at the THEM boards) have occationally had to deal with those kind of people, and it's become somewhat of a sore spot with us. I don't have anything in personal against fansubs -- I do believe that, in some cases, it's helped along a license to a series that might otherwise have been left unnoticed -- as long as people understand that fansubs are NOT a free replacement from having to buy the real thing.

I guess I'm preaching to the choir here, but I do need to get that off my chest from time to time. ^^;;

i understand where your comeing from
.

Quote by NorthyEven though I felt the show this wallie is based on is too transparent an effort to deal with a character that probably got a little bit more popular than the creators intended (at least, that's what I'm guessing) you did a very commendable job on this wallpaper. Very good.

hiya Northy :)
